Jolie Bird is a fibre artist based in Mohkinstsis (Calgary), Canada. She completed her MFA at NSCAD University in Halifax in 2013 and has also studied at the Alberta University of the Arts in Calgary and Capilano University in North Vancouver. Bird's research focuses on material and process. She is particularly interested in labour, skill sharing, and community building. She works with natural fibres, cloth, and other media such as wood, found objects, and digital production. Bird emphasizes slow techniques, creating simple, repeating designs and developing intricate patterns through layers of colour, shape, texture, and line. Currently, she works as the Educational Art Technician for the Fibre Program at the Alberta University of the Arts. Her work has been exhibited locally, nationally and in the United States.
